There are so many Homeopaths from whom the author has obtained gems of healing wisdom, both dead and deceased. Of those he has studied in written or recorded form principally are the great Greek Classical Homeopath George Vithoulkas (alive today) and the great Classical Homeopaths who started it all (all deceased): Hahemann, Boenninghausen, Boger, Kent, Lippe, Clarke, the Allens, Hering, Farrington, Knerr and many others. He began studying these classic writers while he attended The San Francisco School of Acupuncture (1984-86), which has since closed, before making the decision to become an Homeopath, and they are still sources of continual learning, inspiration and insight to him today.

Contemporary homeopathic teachers he studied with over a period of five years while attending the Pacific Academy of Homeopathy (1987-92) influenced him just as much as those authors he studied in written form, some more. They are: Subrata Kumar Banerjea, Sheilagh Creasy, Paul Herscu, Robin Murphy, Vega Rozenberg, André Saine and Jeremy Sherr. Some were very strict Classical Homeopaths others were more flexible in their thinking. He learned a tremendous amount from both types of teacher, and, in the end, learned to think independently, within the framework of Classical Homeopathy. Dr. Dalpé has found over time that this is the real skill in being an successful Homeopath, to know the fundamentals but not to be restricted by them.

Another major direct influence over his decision to become an Homeopath was being horribly disappointed and disillusioned with allopathic treatment methods when he had developed chronic colitis in the early 80's (which he later realized was due to chronic mercury poisoning from dental amalgams). The realization became clear fairly soon that Allopathic Medicine subscribed to the notion that the body was just a machine and disease was something you have to attack, kill and remove. He later realized the ineffective results of this method of "healing" was due to a misunderstanding of the mechanisms of symptoms and disease. Hahnemann states unequivocally that the symptoms of the patient are produced by the Vital Force in an attempt to heal the disorder present in the patient. I realized that Allopathic Medicines of all types, including traditional folk medicine systems, have all bought into the mental perspective of antagonism, contraries and war, in essence. Rather than supporting the curative attempt by the Vital Force to cure itself (by the administration of the similimum, or remedy that goes with the symptoms, not against them), Allopathic Practitioners have conceived that it is necessary to use violence and to apply force against the symptoms and to obliterate them. This thinking is symptomatic of our war-torn race globally. It is a mentality that causes destruction and harm both medically, mentally and socially.

Dr. Dalpé is always amused when a patient or someone inquiring about treatment asks a questions like, "Did you read so-and-so's book on such-and-such?" or "What is the treatment for a particular disease?" There is no set treatment or medicine for any disease or condition in Homeopathic Therapeutics. Nearly all homeopathic books on the market are written for lay people. Homeopaths don't generally read them. They are designed to make a complex subject look simple and palatable to the untrained person. Classical Homeopathy is almost never bound by predetermined treatment protocols. The individual's case must always, always be taken afresh without bias or predetermined ideas. Also each patient needs a different remedy. The methods and principles of homeopathic healing do not change, unlike the profit-driven medical fads and designer drugs we see being pushed all the time in the media, but will always remain the same. The scientific methods of Homeopathy do not change. Hahnemann in his seminal work Organon refers to the Homeopathic Practitioner as the "unprejudiced observer" in aphorism number six. He or she approaches each new patient's case without preconceived ideas or theories about what needs to be done and, without judgement, observes the symptoms of the individual and matches these to the most similar remedy in the materia medica. This is the process that is used no matter what the name of the disease, no matter what the condition of the patient--no matter what, period! It's that simple. But it's not simple. Classical Homeopathy must be individualized to the patient every time in order for the amazing healing powers of Homeopathy to be revealed.

As one becomes an older, more experienced practitioner one begins to understand Homeopathy even more and more deeply. An example of such an insight that was taught from the very beginning in Homeopathic School is the realization that actually it is the body's own healing powers that do all of the curing under Homeopathic Therapy. Homeopathy is the science of stimulating this innate healing energy that we all have within us. We call it the Vital Force. The Vital Force (called Qi or Chi in oriental medical systems) is an energetic, biodynamic, non material, vibrational level of power which can be manipulated with similar energies (the dynamically prepared similimum). Such realizations are truly awe-inspiring and reinforce one's understanding and ability to employ Homeopathy to help alleviate suffering, raise the quality of life and prevent premature death.
